Materials & tools
For crafting the table runner, we highly recommend using cotton yarn. In our instructional video, crafting a table runner (93 basic chain stitches) required approximately 750 meters of cotton yarn #4, twisted into two strands. We utilized a 4mm crochet hook for this project.
If you’re considering making a rug, we suggest opting for polyester cord due to its hypoallergenic, sun-resistant, durable, and machine-washable properties. Polyester cords offer a diverse range of colors, including solid shades, two-color blends, and gradients transitioning between hues. For the rug, a 5-6mm polyester cord with a core (requiring an 8/9/10mm hook) or a thinner 3-4mm cord without a core (suitable for a 6/7mm hook) will work well.
Estimated cord usage for the rug (123 basic chain stitches):
– 5-6mm cord: approximately 2000 meters
– 3-4mm cord: around 1600 meters
Please note: Material estimations are approximate, and having extra cord is advisable. The amount of cord needed depends on its thickness, hook size, stitch density, and the desired size of the runner or rug. Polyester cord is available for purchase on Etsy.
