Free amigurumi crochet pattern “Christmas Bauble Ornaments” by Tatiana Erofeeva.
With this pattern you can crochet Christmas bauble ornaments: a piglet, Snow Maiden, Santa Claus and gnome. For amigurumi you can use any cotton-blend yarn of similar weight. For a fluffy “fur” effect on the beard you can use NAKO Paris or similar yarns.
Inside each ornament you can put a styrofoam ball. If you don’t have one, use regular toy stuffing (polyester fiberfill, holofiber, etc.).
Materials and tools
• YarnArt Jeans or Alize Cotton Gold (main yarn)
• Crochet hook 1.75 mm
• Safety eyes or beads for toys
• Toy stuffing
• Styrofoam balls
• Decorative elements
• Felt
• Glue
• Needle for sewing pieces
• Scissors
Abbreviations
MR – magic ring
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec – decrease (sc2tog)
(…) × n – repeat instructions in brackets n times
Notes
All stitch counts are calculated for a 5 cm (2″) diameter ball and yarn approx. 320–330 m / 100 g with a 1.75 mm hook (“Gamma” brand).
If your base, hook size or yarn thickness are different, the number of stitches and rounds may also differ. Crochet so that the cover fits snugly over the bauble: it shouldn’t be too loose (sliding on the ball) or too tight (you’ll need space between the bauble and the cover to hide yarn tails).
Unless otherwise stated, all stitches are worked under both loops of the stitch.
Starting from the 4th round, to avoid forming a hexagon and keep a smooth circle, it’s recommended in rounds with increases and decreases to crochet one extra sc at the beginning of the round as a shifting stitch. This stitch is not included in the written stitch counts.
Base – smooth yarn cover for 5 cm bauble
Work with smooth yarn in spirals (no turning chains).
1 rnd: 6 sc in MR, tighten the ring
2 rnd: inc × 6 (12)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) × 6 (18)
4 rnd: (2 sc, inc) × 6 (24)
5 rnd: (3 sc, inc) × 6 (30)
6 rnd: (4 sc, inc) × 6 (36)
7 rnd: (5 sc, inc) × 6 (42)
Check whether the diameter is large enough for your ball: when viewed from above, the bauble should not extend beyond the crocheted circle or only slightly.
Then work straight without increases or decreases. You can use a stitch marker; I usually use the yarn tail left from the magic ring.
8–14 rnds: 42 sc (7 rounds)
Now we close the remaining part of the ball by working decrease rounds directly on the bauble. Put the cover on the bauble and continue crocheting with the bauble inside.
15 rnd: (5 sc, dec) × 6 (36)
16 rnd: (4 sc, dec) × 6 (30)
17 rnd: (3 sc, dec) × 6 (24)
18 rnd: (2 sc, dec) × 6 (18)
19 rnd: (1 sc, dec) × 6 (12)
20 rnd: (1 sc, dec) × 4 (8)
Cut the yarn, thread it into a needle and tighten the remaining stitches closed.
Base from fluffy (Softy) yarn
1 rnd: 8 sc in MR (8)
2 rnd: inc × 8 (16)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) × 8 (24)
4 rnd: (3 sc, inc) × 6 (30)
5 rnd: (4 sc, inc) × 6 (36)
6–12 rnds: 36 sc (7 rounds)
13 rnd: (4 sc, dec) × 6 (30)
14 rnd: (3 sc, dec) × 6 (24)
15 rnd: (2 sc, dec) × 6 (18)
16 rnd: dec × 9 (9)
Cut the yarn and close the opening.

Christmas Bauble – Piglet

Ears (make 2)
Use the same yarn as for the piglet’s base, hook 1.75 mm.
1 rnd: ch 3, work an inc (2 sc) into the 3rd ch from hook, turn (3)
2 rnd: ch 1, 1 sc in same st as ch, 1 sc, inc in last st, turn (5)
3–4 rnds: ch 1, 4 sc, turn (5)
Edge both sides of the ear with sc: work 4 sc along one side, inc (2 sc in one st) at the top point, then 4 sc along the other side. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.
Note: if your base is larger, after the 2nd row you can add more rows with increases until the ear reaches the desired width, for example:
3 rnd: ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 3 sc, inc, turn (7)
4 rnd: ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 5 sc, inc, turn (9) – and so on.
From pink felt cut a small oval snout. If your felt is self-adhesive, you can stick it on and secure with a couple of stitches to imitate nostrils. Instead of felt you can use a button with two holes of a suitable size, or crochet a snout (for example, 8 sc in MR, tighten, embroider nostrils and sew to the base).
With the same thread used for the nostrils, embroider a smile. First make several stitches outlining the curve, then go over them again wrapping the stitches with the same thread to smooth the line.
Embroider the eyes – I used small beads sewn with black sewing thread, then embroidered eyelashes and eyebrows. Sew the ears to the piglet.
Hat
Work with red yarn (for example, Pehorka Nezhnaya 50% cotton / 50% acrylic, 165 m / 50 g), hook 1.75 mm:
1 rnd: 8 dc in MR (8)
2 rnd: ch 2, 7 dc (8)
3 rnd: ch 2, 2 dc, inc (2 dc in one st), 3 dc, inc (10)
4 rnd: 10 dc (10)
5 rnd: ch 2, 3 dc, inc, 4 dc, inc (12)
6 rnd: 12 dc (12)
7 rnd: inc × 12 (24)
8 rnd: (1 dc, inc) × 12 (36)
Cut the red yarn and join white fluffy yarn (Alize Softy, 100% micro-polyester, 115 m / 50 g).
9 rnd: (4 sc, dec) × 6 (30)
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.
Pom-pom
Work with Softy:
1 rnd: 12 dc in MR (12)
2 rnd: 12 dc (12)
Cut the yarn, tighten the ring and sew the pom-pom to the tip of the hat. Bend the tip with pom-pom over and secure it in place with a couple of stitches. Sew the hat to the bauble. Sew on a snowflake button (or any decorative element you have).
At the bottom of the bauble, attach a ribbon using the hook and tie a bow. Blush the cheeks with dry pastel: scrape some pastel pencil into powder and apply with a soft brush where needed; test on a scrap of felt first, then gently shake off the excess. The piglet is ready.
Christmas Bauble – Snow Maiden

Hat
Main yarn: red Pehorka Nezhnaya 50% cotton / 50% acrylic, 165 m / 50 g; light blue yarn of similar thickness; for trim – Christmas YarnArt (100% polyamide, 50 g / 142 m), white. Hook 1.75 mm. Start with the coloured yarn:
1 rnd: 8 sc in MR (8)
2 rnd: inc × 8 (16)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) × 8 (24)
4 rnd: 24 sc (24)
5 rnd: (2 sc, inc) × 8 (32)
6 rnd: 32 sc (32)
7 rnd: (3 sc, inc) × 8 (40)
8 rnd: 40 sc (40)
9 rnd: (4 sc, inc) × 8 (48)
10–11 rnds: 48 sc (2 rounds)
Cut the yarn and weave in the end. Join Christmas yarn to the wrong side of the hat and crochet with the wrong side facing out (so the fluffy thread stands out more on the right side).
12–14 rnds: 48 sc (3 rounds)
Cut the yarn and fasten off. Try the hat on your bases; if you use larger baubles, add more rounds with increases. The hat should sit snugly – not too loose, not too tight.
Braids and fringe
For the braids use suitable hair-coloured yarn (for example Gazzal Baby Cotton 60% cotton / 40% acrylic, 165 m / 50 g). Wind several turns around your palm, cut on one side – you’ll get 12 strands.
Take the first 6 strands and attach them to the edge of the hat, one strand per stitch along the trim. Skip 16 stitches and attach the remaining 6 strands.
Braid the strands into two braids and tie the ends with a small piece of the same yarn. Trim evenly.
Between the braids crochet a fringe (bangs): attach the yarn and work sl st, 2 sc, 3 hdc, 1 sc, 2 sl st, 1 sc, 3 hdc, 2 sc, sl st. Secure the tails and later hide them under the hat.
Face
Embroider the Snow Maiden’s nose with a few stitches. With black sewing thread embroider the eyes, sew tiny beads on top, and mark the nose with single stitches. With pink yarn embroider the mouth.
Ears (2)
Attach the main skin-tone yarn slightly below the eye level at the side and crochet 2–3 sc into the same stitch. Cut the yarn, secure and hide the tail – the tiny bump forms an ear.
Sew the hat in place. Sew a snowflake or other decoration on the hat, and a small bow from ribbon at the bottom. Shade the face with dry pastel.
Christmas Bauble – Santa Claus

Nose
Use the same yarn as for the bauble base, hook 1.75 mm.
1 rnd: 6 sc in MR (6)
2 rnd: inc × 6 (12)
3 rnd: 12 sc (12)
4 rnd: (1 sc, dec) × 4 (8)
Cut the yarn leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff lightly or insert a bead of suitable size. Sew the nose to the base and optionally tint with pastel.
For the eyes, cut an oval from white felt, sew beads onto it and attach above the nose; embroider eyelashes with black thread at the sides.
Beard
Crochet following the chart (described in text). Start is marked in green, edging in red. Yarn: NAKO Paris (40% premium acrylic, 60% polyamide, 245 m / 100 g).
1 row: ch 5, starting from 2nd ch from hook – 1 sc, 2 sc, inc in last st, turn.
2 row: ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 4 sc, inc in last st, turn.
3 row: ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 6 sc, inc in last st, turn.
4 row: ch 2, 1 dc in same st, 1 hdc, 6 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc in last st (inc).
5 row: ch 5, starting from 3rd ch from hook work 15 sc along the chain, then another chain of 5 ch, 3 sc along this chain, and without cutting the yarn crochet sc edging along the lower edge of the beard (as marked on the chart). Cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the beard under the nose and along the sides of the face. Then bring the needle up above the eyes and with the same yarn embroider thick fluffy eyebrows with several stitches. Hide the tail. All leftover yarn tails can be brought to the top of the bauble – they will be covered by the hat.
Ears (2)
Attach yarn at the side and crochet 2 dc into the same stitch. Pull out the yarn, bring it with a needle to the base of the ear, secure and hide. Shade nose and cheeks with pastel.
(Instructions for Santa’s hat are similar to the piglet’s hat and can be made in matching colours.)
Christmas Bauble – Gnome

The base is worked according to the main base pattern with small changes.
Work the first 7 rounds with brown yarn, then change to red and crochet two rounds.
On the next round change to white. The first white round is worked in back loops only; all following rounds to the end are in both loops. Here we also make the hat and shoes. Yarns: red Pehorka Nezhnaya, green acrylic of similar thickness; hook 1.75 mm.
Hat
Work in spirals without turning chains, all rounds in back loops only. When forming the MR, leave a long tail and pull it outside the ring (it will be used later for the curl).
1 rnd: 5 sc in MR (5)
2 rnd: inc, 4 sc (6)
3–5 rnds: 6 sc (6)
6 rnd: inc, 5 sc (7)
7 rnd: 7 sc (7)
8 rnd: inc, 6 sc (8)
9–10 rnds: 8 sc (8)
11 rnd: inc, 7 sc (9)
12 rnd: 9 sc (9)
13 rnd: inc, 8 sc (10)
14 rnd: 10 sc (10)
15 rnd: inc, 9 sc (11)
16 rnd: 11 sc (11)
17 rnd: inc, 10 sc (12)
18 rnd: 12 sc (12)
19 rnd: inc, 11 sc (13)
20 rnd: 13 sc (13)
21 rnd: inc, 12 sc (14)
22 rnd: inc, 13 sc (15)
23 rnd: inc, 14 sc (16)
24 rnd: inc, 15 sc (17)
25 rnd: inc, 16 sc (18)
26 rnd: inc, 17 sc (19)
27 rnd: inc, 18 sc (20)
28 rnd: inc, 19 sc (21)
29 rnd: inc, 20 sc (22)
30 rnd: inc, 21 sc (23)
31 rnd: inc, 22 sc (24)
32 rnd: (inc, 3 sc) × 6 (30)
33 rnd: (inc, 4 sc) × 6 (36)
34 rnd: (inc, 5 sc) × 6 (42)
35 rnd: (inc, 6 sc) × 6 (48)
36–37 rnds: 48 sc (2 rounds)
Secure and cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.
Now thread the starting tail into a needle and weave it under the free front loops of earlier rounds (about 15–20 stitches, depending on how long you want the curl).
Pull the yarn tightly to form a spiral curl, secure with a few stitches and hide the end inside the hat.
Shoes (make 2)
Work with green yarn in spirals through back loops only; again leave a long tail at the beginning for the curl.
1 rnd: 5 sc in MR (5)
2 rnd: inc, 4 sc (6)
3 rnd: 6 sc (6)
4 rnd: inc, 5 sc (7)
5 rnd: 7 sc (7)
6 rnd: inc, 6 sc (8)
7 rnd: inc, 7 sc (9)
8 rnd: inc, 8 sc (10)
9 rnd: inc, 9 sc (11)
10–11 rnds: 11 sc (11)
Secure and cut the yarn leaving a tail for sewing. Then thread the starting tail into a needle and weave under 6 free loops, pull tight to form a small curl and secure with a few stitches inside. Make the second shoe the same way.
Leaf decoration
Work with green yarn, hook 1.75 mm.
1 rnd: 12 dc in MR, end with sl st.
2 rnd: 1 sc, in next st work (1 sc + picot of 3 ch + 1 sc), 1 sc, 1 sc with picot, 1 sc, at the top work 3 times (1 sc + picot) in one stitch, then again alternate 1 sc, 1 sc with picot around, finish with sl st.
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.
Nose
White yarn, hook 1.75 mm.
1 rnd: 6 sc in MR (6)
2 rnd: inc × 6 (12)
3 rnd: 12 sc (12)
4 rnd: (2 sc, dec) × 3 (9)
Cut the yarn leaving a tail for sewing.
Assembly
Sew the nose to the bauble. Sew the leaf to the hat and add three red beads – this will be a sprig of Christmas holly.
Sew a jingle bell to the tip of the hat curl. Sew the hat to the base, slightly tilted backward. Under the hat, crochet the ears. Attach white yarn at the side, hook 1.75 mm.
Right ear: ch 4 from the joining point, then into the same base stitch work 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. Fasten off and hide ends.
Left ear: attach yarn, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, ch 4. Cut the yarn, bring the tail to the ear base, secure and hide.
Sew the little shoes to the bottom of the bauble. You can add a bit of stuffing into the hat and shoes.
Embroider the face: sew two bead eyes above the nose, embroider a smile under the nose with black sewing thread, add eyelashes and “house-shaped” eyebrows. Shade cheeks, nose and ears with dry pastel.
Embroider small hands on the base with red and white yarn. Sew a green button to the “trousers”.
Attach a hanging loop to the top of the ornament – a cord, ribbon, keyring or any other method. Secure and hide all yarn ends inside.
