Instructions
Sizing note: Instructions for smaller sizes are given in parentheses and separated by a slash.
If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.
CUFF
Cast on 64 (60/56/52) stitches on DPNs and distribute them evenly. Knit one round.
Work 15 rows following the lace chart.
LEG (Upper Part)
Work 56 rows in pattern according to the chart — that is, repeat the lace chart 7 (7/6/6) times.
HEEL FLAP
Use needles 1 and 4 to work the heel flap over 32 (30/28/26) stitches.
Slip the first stitch knitwise and knit the last stitch through the back loop (these are the edge stitches).
Work the heel flap following the established pattern until you have 30 (28/28/26) rows in height.
Note: Work the first row using needle 1 only, since needle 4 is already used for the upper part of the sock.
HEEL TURN
1st row: Knit 17 (16/15/14), k2tog, k1, turn.
2nd row: Slip 1 purlwise, p3, p2tog, p1, turn.
3rd row: Slip 1 knitwise, knit to the stitch that was worked together in the previous row, k2tog, k1, turn.
4th row: Slip 1 purlwise, purl to the stitch that was worked together in the previous row, p2tog, p1, turn.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all stitches are worked.
Knit 9 (8/8/7) stitches (half of the remaining 18 (16/16/14) sts). Now resume working in the round.

GUSSET
Round 1: Knit 9 (8/8/7) sts, pick up and knit 16 (15/15/14) sts along the side of the heel flap (you now have 25 (23/23/21) sts on needle 1), work needles 2 and 3 in pattern, pick up and knit 16 (15/15/14) sts along the other side of the heel, then knit 9 (8/8/7) sts (25 (23/23/21) sts on needle 4).
Round 2: Knit 9 (8/8/7), knit 16 (15/15/14) through the back loop, work needles 2 and 3 in pattern, knit 16 (15/15/14) through the back loop, knit 9 (8/8/7).
Shaping: Starting after round 2, decrease on needles 1 and 4 in every even round:
-
Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
-
Needle 4: k1, k2tog tbl, knit to end.
Repeat these decreases until you have
16 (15/14/13) stitches on needles 1 and 4.
FOOT
Continue working the top of the foot (needles 2 and 3) in lace pattern. Repeat the chart continuously.
Work the sole (needles 1 and 4) in stockinette stitch.
Continue knitting until the foot is about 3.5–4 cm shorter than the desired total length.
TOE
Round 1:
-
Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
-
Needle 2: k1, k2tog tbl, knit to end.
-
Needle 3: Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
-
Needle 4: k1, k2tog tbl, knit to end.
Round 2: Knit all stitches.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 10 stitches remain on each needle. Then work decreases in every round (repeat Round 1 only) until 5 stitches remain on each needle.
Knit across needle 1 to position the working yarn.
Transfer stitches from needles 2 & 3 and 1 & 4 to two separate needles. You now have 10 sts on each needle. Graft the toe using Kitchener stitch or seam it with mattress stitch from the wrong side.
