Instructions
Right Front, Back, Left Front
With size 7 long circular needles and 3 strands held together, cast on 127 (137) 147 sts and, starting with a WS row, work:
8 sts button band (see Left Front WS row), 111 (121) 131 sts in stockinette, 8 sts button band (see Right Front WS row).
Continue with pattern as follows:
8 sts button band (Right Front RS row), 111 (121) 131 sts Mesh Brioche Stitch, 8 sts button band (Left Front RS row).
On the right front, make the first buttonhole after 17.5 (18.5) 19.5 cm from the cast-on edge, and then every 17.5 cm three more times.
After 60 cm = 167 rows, divide stitches as follows:
35 (38) 41 sts for each front, 57 (61) 65 sts for the back.
Leave front sts on hold. Finish the back first.
Back
In Row 1, add 1 edge stitch to each side = 59 (63) 67 sts. Continue in Mesh Brioche Stitch.
After 20 (21) 22 cm = 56 (58) 60 rows, bind off 7 sts at each edge for shoulder shaping. Then bind off 7 sts twice more (or 7 and 8 / or 8 twice), depending on size.
At the same time, when shaping shoulders, bind off the center 9 (11) 13 sts for the neckline.
For neckline rounding, bind off 2 sts twice from the inner edge in every 2nd row.
Finish the other side symmetrically.
Left Front
In Row 1, add 1 edge st to the right edge = 36 (39) 42 sts. Work in pattern.
After 15 (16) 16 cm = 42 (44) 46 rows, transfer 8 button band sts from the left edge to a holder.
Shape the neckline by binding off:
2 sts 2 (3/4) times, 1 st twice, and 1 more st in the 4th row.
Shape shoulder as for back, at same height.
Right Front
Work as left front, mirroring all shaping.
Sleeves
With short circular needles size 7 and 3 strands held together, cast on 31 (33) 35 sts, work 1 WS row in knit.
Continue in Mesh Brioche Stitch.
After 10 cm = 29 rows, increase 1 st each side, then every 10th row increase 1 st 8 more times = 49 (51) 53 sts.
At 49 (50) 51 cm = 137 (141) 143 rows, leave sts on hold.
Make the second sleeve the same.
Pockets
With size 7 needles and 3 strands held together, cast on 20 sts, work 1 WS row in knit.
Continue in Mesh Brioche Stitch.
At 14 cm = 40 rows, bind off on WS row.
Knit the second pocket the same.
Finishing
Block all pieces to measurements, dampen and let dry.
Sew shoulder seams.
Collar
Transfer 8 button band sts from right front to needle. Pick up 17 (19) 21 sts from right neckline, 19 (21) 23 from back neck, 17 (19) 21 from left neckline, and transfer 8 button band sts from left front = 69 (75) 81 sts.
Continue brioche on button band sts, and half-brioche rib on center sts.
At 8 cm collar height, on RS bind off 8 sts of button band as k2tog (1 knit + 1 purl), closing sts.
On the next WS row, bind off the other 8 sts the same way in purl.
Continue on center sts = 53 (59) 65 sts in half-brioche rib.
After 6 cm, work 2 rows in rib (k1, p1), then switch to stockinette using only 2 mohair strands and size 5 needles for 2 cm. Leave sts on hold.
Fold collar inward and sew to neckline with grafting stitch and along short edges to button bands.
Attach pockets to fronts as per schematic.
Pick up 49 (50) 53 sts around each armhole, knit 1 WS row, then graft to held sleeve sts.
Sew sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
