Beanie with crown “onion top” – Free knitting pattern

The pattern created through decreases allows wearing the beanie on both its right and wrong sides.

For a hat sized 54-56, you’ll need:
✅ Lana Gatto Maxi Soft yarn – 2.5 skeins 50/90 (or yarn with similar yardage)
✅ 3.5mm knitting needles
✅ Tapestry needle or crochet hook.

Cast on 104 stitches +1 stitch for joining in the round (NUMBER OF STITCHES MULTIPLE OF 8)!

Join the knitting in the round, knit the first row in 1×1 ribbing, and place a marker at the beginning of the row.

Continue knitting in 1×1 ribbing to a height of 24-25 cm, then divide the knitting into 4 wedges, placing markers 26 stitches before the knit stitch.

Decreases are made every two rows:
Row 1 – decreases
Row 2 – as per the pattern
Row 3 – as per the pattern
Row 4 – decreases, and so on.

Decrease pattern:
Slip 2 stitches together knitwise, purl 1, Marker, knit 1, purl 1, Slip 2 stitches together knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over.

Continue decreasing until there is one stitch between decrease lines.

In my case, after 10 rows of decreases, there were 24 stitches on the needles. The total hat height is 35 cm.

Sew the remaining stitches together with a tapestry needle or crochet hook.
Neatly tuck in the ends and perform a finishing warm hot treatment.
