Materials & tools

For the Rug:

  • Polyester or polypropylene cord (polypropylene cord is more economical but may be of lower quality compared to polyester cord).
  • Crochet hook matching the thickness of the cord (see details below**).
  • An additional smaller crochet hook to weave in the ends of the cord under stitches.
  • 5 markers of different colors
  • The final size will be about 210 cm (82″)

**If you are using a 5-6 mm polyester cord with a core, you can use a crochet hook from 8 to 10 mm.
If you are using a 3-4 mm polyester cord without a core, you can use a crochet hook from 5 to 7 mm.

For the Doily or Wall Mandala:

  • Mercerized cotton thread N°10
  • 2 mm crochet hook
  • An additional smaller crochet hook to weave in the ends of the yarn under stitches.
  • 5 markers of different colors
  • The final size will be about 55 cm (21″)

Yarn Consumption:

For the rug, crocheted from a 5 mm polyester cord with a core (9 mm crochet hook), approximately 4000 meters will be needed (20 spools of 200 meters each).
For the doily, crocheted with cotton thread N°10 (2 mm crochet hook), approximately 900 meters will be required.
Always purchase materials with a surplus.

Colors and Yarn Consumption per Color:

We purchased the polyester cord on Etsy. Lithuania is the largest producer of polyester cord in the EU, and on Etsy, you’ll find numerous sellers from Lithuania. They sell cords from the same manufacturer, offering a vast color selection. You can also order a mix of any two colors or choose gradients (a five-step transition from one color to another).
For the rug featured in the main photo, the following cord colors (Lithuanian manufacturer’s color numbers) were used:

  • Beige (N°6) – 1200 meters (6 spools of 200 meters each)
  • Mix (Beige (N°6) / Terracotta (N°65)) – 100 meters (half a spool)
  • Terracotta (N°65) – 900 meters (4.5 spools of 200 meters each)
  • Mix (Terracotta (N°65) / Coffee (N°8)) – 800 meters (4 spools of 200 meters each)
  • Coffee (N°8) – 950 meters (almost 5 spools of 200 meters each)

Color Correspondence between the Rug and the Mandala in the Video Tutorial:

For the video tutorial, we used two-fold cotton yarn from Hobbii on cones (500 g/1700 m).

  • Beige = Beige in the initial circle / Tulip on the petals
  • Mix (Beige / Terracotta) = mix (Beige / Aqua Tint)
  • Terracotta = Light Pink
  • Coffee = Aqua Tint
  • Mix (Terracotta / Coffee)*** = Aqua Tint

*** The mix (Terracota / Caffee) was used in the last 8 rows of the rug.

What is the target audience?

The video tutorial is designed for advanced-level crocheters. The project is intricate, time-consuming, and includes a substantial number of relief elements. Additionally, if you choose to crochet a multicolored rug or mandala, it will further add complexity to the task.
