Main pattern
Abbreviations :
- Chain – ch
- Sc – single crochet
- Dc – double crochet
- St(s) – stitch(es)
- Sl st – slip stitch
- Bpdc – back post double crochet
- Bpdc2tog – back post double crochet 2 together
Special stitch for border:
Reverse single crochet (crab stitch) – crochet as a single crochet but in the opposite direction, i.e., from left to right.
Gauge: 4 repeats x 6 rows = 10 x 10 cm — worked with a crochet hook #6 in the main pattern.
Note: Work the back and front in turning rows from top to bottom, then connect the pieces on the sides and at the shoulder areas. Afterward, work the sleeves in continuous rounds directly from the armholes. The number of stitches determines the width, and the number of rows determines the length.
If desired, the sweater can be adjusted to individual measurements and preferred fit (tight-fitting or comfortably loose). It’s important to keep an eye on the number of chain stitches, which should be a multiple of 4 + 3 for pattern formation (see the diagram).
WORK EXECUTION
Sweater (made of 2 identical pieces)
For sizes 34-40 (loose fit): use crochet hook #6, chain 83 (20 pattern repeats = 80 chains + 3 chains).
For sizes 42-46 (loose fit): use crochet hook #6, chain 99 (24 pattern repeats = 96 chains + 3 chains).
1st row: Ch 3 (= 1st dc), 1 dc in the 7th chain st. from the hook, ch 2, 1 dc in the same chain st. Skip 3 chains, * (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in the next chain st., skip 3 chains *, repeat from * to *. At the end of the row, skip 2 chains and make 1 dc in the last chain.
2nd row: Ch 3 (= 1st dc), *1bpdc around the next st, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in the arch, bpdc2tog around the next 2 sts.*, repeat from * to *. At the end of the row, make 1 dc in the 3rd chain of the turning chain.
3rd row: Ch 3 (= 1st dc), throughout the row make (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in the arch. At the end of the row, make 1 dc in the 3rd chain of the turning chain.
4th to 45th rows: Repeat alternating 2nd and 3rd rows.
22nd row: Switch to crochet hook #7.
34th row: Switch to crochet hook #8.
Repeat the same for the second half of the sweater.
Place the front and back sides facing each other and join the sides and shoulder areas with seams, leaving the central 32 cm at the top (for the neckline), the upper 16-18 cm on each side (for armholes), and 15 cm at the bottom on each side (for side slits) unworked.
Secure all yarn ends and turn the sweater inside out.
Sleeves
Attach the yarn at the base of the armhole and, using crochet hook #6, make 56 single crochets (= 14 pattern repeats) for sizes 34-40 and 64 single crochets (= 16 pattern repeats) for sizes 42-46.
Then, crochet 36 rounds in the main pattern.
At the end of each round, make 1 sl st in the 3rd starting chain, and in the next round, make a sl st to the new starting chain.
Repeat the same for the second sleeve.
Neckline
Attach the yarn near the side seam and crochet in the round using crochet hook #6:
1st rnd: Ch 1, make 1 sc in each chain st. of the starting chain, close the round with 1 sl st.
2nd rnd: Ch 1, make 1 crab st., * ch 1, skip 1 st., 1 crab st. *, repeat from * to *. At the end of each round, make 1 sl st.
Assembly
Secure all yarn ends. Fold the sleeves.
Snood
The number of chains determines the width, and the number of rows determines the length. If desired, adjust the snood dimensions according to individual preferences. It is important to ensure that the number of chains is a multiple of 4 + 3 for pattern formation.
Using crochet hook #6, ch 35 (8 pattern repeats = 32 chains + 3 chains). Rows 1 to 66: Crochet in turning rows, similar to the sweater.
At the end of the work, weave in the yarn ends.
