YARN: Worsted (#4) weight.
Shown here: Lion Brand Heartland (100% acrylic; 251 yd [230 m]/142 g): #136-125 Mammoth Cave, 8 skeins.
HOOKS: Size K/10.5 (6.5 mm).
Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.
NOTIONS: Yarn needle.
FINISHED DIMENSIONS: Approx. 31″ (79 cm) from top of collar to bottom of poncho; 40″ (101.5 cm) side to side at widest point.
GAUGE: 7 sts and 4 rows = 2″ (5 cm) in pattern stitch across bottom.
SPECIAL STITCHES: Four-Stitch Post Cable, Honeycomb Cable, Ribbing Using Front Post and Back Post, Wheat Cable

JOINING PANELS
Note: See diagram below.
Seam according to the diagram, joining side B to section A of the other rectangle, aligning the corners with matching symbols. With RS together, working through both layers, join with a slip st in the ch-2 corners of each piece, continuing through both layers, slip st next 61 sts and ch-2 corner. Finish off.
Join other seam in the same manner.
RIBBING TRIM AROUND NECK SECTION
Rnd 1: With RS facing, join with a slip st to inside neck corner. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 101 dc evenly around. (102 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, [fpdc, bpdc] around to last st, fpdc, join to first st of rnd.
Rnds 3–10: Repeat Rnd 2. Finish off.
RIBBING TRIM AROUND BOTTOM
Rnd 1: Join with a slip st anywhere along side of poncho except the corner area. Ch 2, dc in each st around, working 6 dc into both corner points of poncho, join in first dc of rnd. (360 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (counts as first st), [fpdc, bpdc] around to last st, fpdc, join to first st of rnd.
Rnds 3–5: Repeat Rnd 2. Finish off.
FINISHING
Weave in loose ends.
